refresh, reset & repurpose.

January 12, 2018

We are a solid twelve days into the New Year..how are you feeling?! Even if you're not where you want to be, could or should be just know you're not alone. Often times we lose steam so early in the game because we are distracted by busyness…trying to do too much at once or allow something too small to take up too much of our focus.

Refresh: to restore or maintain by renewing supply

We all need to be refreshed. It keeps us sharp and honest. It allows a special work to be done in us to better reach the desired goal. If it takes you too long to think of five ways you refresh yourself in any capacity - you don't refresh yourself enough. Luckily, I'm here to help!

Pray:  "Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you" 1 Peter 5:7

One of the most obvious ways, but I couldn’t continue without mentioning. The best way to recharge is to talk to God. Tell Him everything that concerns you at any time of the day. He's the most reliable and non-judging person to listen!

Healthy habits: Whatever methods you choose are fine as long as you're not hurting yourself or someone else. Exercising, yoga, writing, reading, coloring…the list literally could go on and on. If going to 9 Rounds keeps your from punching your boo or boss; go for it.

Motivate others: When we think of refresh, we make sure we exclude other people in the process. There's nothing wrong with alone time (trust me I'm an advocate) but helping those around us can honestly be another way to give us the boost we need to keep pushing forward. It reminds of that there are people watching and rooting for us.

Girls night out: Even when I'm at my lowest, it's something about a girls sleepover or night out that gets me together. We all have different responsibilities, but you never get too old or too busy to squeeze in QT with the ladies.

Pamper yo' self: Whether you're doing your own mani/pedi or paying someone else to do it, pampering yourself is always clutch. Go get a new hairstyle, get them eyebrows snatched and be great, girl! You don't have to spend a lot of money (or any at all) to incorporate self care. Take a bubble bath, put a mask on your face, play some music and light some candles…boom. Spa in the bathroom for free .99

Reset: to set again or anew

Did you outline any goals? If not, take the time to think about each area in your life and be honest with yourself. Goals aren't meant to intimidate you, they're actually there to encourage you to be better and to further prove you are capable. Be specific - I'll provide an example:

Goal

I want to deepen my relationship with God

How can I do that?

Writing in my journal daily, pray consistently, make praise and worship a part of my lifestyle not just on Sundays

What do I need to do to achieve it?

Limit time on social media, carve out dedicated time in the morning and at night, go to life group consistently

What worked in the past?

Being excited to talk to God versus treating it like a burden

What things got me off track before?

Emotions, feeling discouraged

Any underlying things I can do to help me better achieve this goal?

Keep verses handy about emotions, timing, patience and perseverance, write/recite affirmations speaking life into myself before the day begins

You can see I went into detail. It's hard to hold yourself accountable when you aren't specific enough about how you can reach the goal. The issue isn't that I don't want to have a better relationship - it's actually that I allow my emotions to get in the way. To keep my emotions together I have to use my outlets to channel any negative feelings, and use the Bible verses I have on deck to combat those false beliefs.

Repurpose: to give a new purpose or use to

It does not have to be January for you to redefine who you are, what you believe or what you deserve. You are free to make these changes to better yourself at any given time. There are tons of DIY projects on Pinterest where someone buys a cheap piece of furniture and turns it into something fabulous - worth more value.

Up your value in 2018 sis; you deserve it.
